BillWatch

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026 · Applies to getbillwatch.com and the BillWatch app

BillWatch helps you track, understand, and reduce your Jamaican utility bills. To do that, we handle some of your information. This policy explains plainly what we collect, why, where it lives, and your choices. We built BillWatch on a simple principle: your bill data exists to serve you — we do not sell it.

1. What we collect

  • Profile: your first name and parish (provided at setup), and your email address if you create an account.
  • Bill information: details you add — biller, amounts, due dates, account numbers, consumption (kWh/m³), exchange rates, payment status, and optional "whose bill" labels (e.g., a family member's name you choose to enter).
  • Bill photos & meter photos: images you submit are processed to extract the bill or meter details, then the extracted data is kept. We do not build a photo library of your documents.
  • Appliance details you enter in the Energy Profiler.
  • Solar quote requests: if you request installer quotes, we collect your name, WhatsApp number, parish, roof type, and your consumption profile — only with your explicit tick-box consent.
  • Emails you forward to a BillWatch capture address (if you use that feature): the email content and attachments are processed to extract the bill.

2. Where your data lives

  • On your device: BillWatch works without an account; in that mode your data is stored only in your browser on your device.
  • In your account (optional): if you sign in, your data is backed up to our database (hosted on Supabase, servers in the United States) so it syncs across your devices. Access is protected so that only your signed-in account can read your rows.

3. How AI is involved

Bill photos, meter photos, forwarded bill emails, and your chat questions are processed by an AI service (Anthropic's Claude, via our secure server) to extract details and generate answers. We send only what's needed for the task. AI output can contain errors — always verify important figures against your actual bill.

4. Service providers we rely on

Vercel (hosting), Supabase (database & sign-in), Anthropic (AI processing), and Resend (email delivery/receiving). Each processes data only to provide their service to us.

5. When we share

  • Solar installers: only if you submit a quote request with the consent box ticked — we share the details listed above so they can quote you. That is the feature.
  • Legal requirements: if validly required by law.
  • Nobody else. We do not sell or rent your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers.

6. Retention & deletion

You can delete any bill, reading, or appliance in the app at any time. Deleting on a synced account removes it from our database. To delete your entire account and data, email us (address below) — we will action it and confirm. Device-only data is removed by clearing your browser data.

7. Your rights

Subject to applicable law — including Jamaica's Data Protection Act for Jamaican users — you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and you may withdraw consent (e.g., for installer contact). Contact us and we'll respond.

8. Children

BillWatch is a utility-bill service intended for adults and is not directed at children under 18.

9. Changes

If we make material changes, we'll update the date above and note it in the app.
